An important advantage of a Retirement Home is socialization. Residents thrive from the activities here and from being around other people. Our vibrant activities staff are wonderful people who truly love and care for those they serve. They encourage resident to engage in various activities throughout the day and evening. Our Activities Calendar consists of regularly scheduled daily activities, as well as special, planned events. We provide a mixture of group activities as well as individual activities. Realizing that everyone has different likes and dislikes, we offer our residents choices. Our Activities staff is skilled at customizing activities to match each individual’s ability and desire to participation. Please see our Activities Calendar and our Salem Memory Care calendar. You need to come and visit our beautiful Activities room. It is a large, sunny area that is bright and cheerful. Our residents love this area. It is the hub of our home and many enjoy “people watching” and seeing the various activities going on. Our residents love this area and choose to relax here instead of feeling isolated in their room.

The Golden Gems

A very active group at Skylines is our Golden Gems! This is a group that enjoys going places. It may be lunch together at a local restaurant, a scenic drive, a day trip to Tanner’s Orchard, and many other interesting adventures.

The Quilters

A lost art, hand quilting, is alive and well at Skylines. A group of ladies diligently work on this craft. They produce some of the most amazing quilts. Graciously, the proceeds of the sale of these quilts are donated to the Skylines charity fund.

Gardening at Skylines

Gardening

Gardening has been a valuable part of daily life for many individuals prior to moving to Skylines. We believe it is important to provide various opportunities for our residents to continue this activity if they desire and according to their abilities. Our apartment and duplex residents enjoy working in our large garden plot. Some residents work in our raised flower bed that is accessible from a chair or a wheelchair (no bending over). Other residents simply like to relax and enjoy the many flower gardens and sitting areas maintained by our staff and volunteers. Gardening experts come and make interesting presentations about gardening and flowers. Our Activities staff is always concocting unusual and tasty treats made from garden produce.

The Farmer’s Market

A really big hit at Skylines is our Farmer’s Market. A local produce grower voluntarily brings us wonderful fresh fruits and vegetables for our residents to enjoy. He gathers items from his garden and other gardeners. Every Thursday morning during growing season, he sets up shop in a clever produce cart on the front patio. Residents stream outside to see the wide variety and even some unusual items. Everyone is delighted to make their own selection, all free of charge.

Special Events

Our residents love special events. In addition to our regular activities and routines, we frequently get special groups to come to Skylines to entertain or inform our residents. Please look at this list of past events to get an idea of what you may like and what we have scheduled.
